Diplomats Condemn Violent Protest at Tirana Municipality

The EU embassies to Albania condemned Friday the protest that turned violent in front of Tirana Municipality.

After the US Embassy's reaction, reacted even the EU Delegation to Albania, Italian and British embassies.

"The scenes outside the Municipality of Tirana today and use of Molotov cocktails have no place in a democracy. The British Embassy condemns the use of violence and acts of intimidation.

The United Kingdom continues to urge that all disagreements and disputes should be conducted through democratic processes, without violence and that the rule of law must be respected," says the statement of British Embassy.

Meanwhile, the EU Delegation strongly deplore the violence during the protest in Tirana city centre today, during which improvised incendary devices were thrown at the municipality building.

"Such acts have no place in a democratic society and have nothing to do with the legitimate right to peaceful protest," they said.

Same statement was made by the Italian Embassy in Tirana.

"We condemn the acts of violence committed during today's protest in front of the Municipality of Tirana. The right to assemble and protest peacefully is fundamental in a democratic society, but violence against objects or people is in no way justifiable", writes the embassy.
