DP’s National Council Kicks Off as Prominent Figure Gives Up Steering Committee Race

Meeting of the Democratic Party’s (DP) National Council, which will elect the 15 members of its Steering Committee from among the 62 candidates. has been launched this Monday.

Of this number, 30% of the members to be elected to the Steering Committee must be women. The number of candidacies is divided into 43 men and 19 women, while the list of candidates is composed of MPs elected in the April 25 elections, and former candidates for MPs. 

However, the name of the Chairman of Durres Democratic Party (DP), Ferdinand Xhaferri, has been removed from the ballot paper as just last night, he announced that he has no intention of competing, thus withdrawing from the process.

In the meantime, the DP leader, Lulzim Basha seems to have chosen more women to run key DP positions and important secretariats.

For the first time, the Democratic Party will have two women vice presidents: Jorida Tabaku, vice president in charge of foreign relations, and Grida Duma, vice president in charge of civil society relations.

Meanwhile, the former director of the Campaign, now an MP from Tirana, lawyer Alfred Rushaj, will be the deputy chairman of the Democratic Party and chairman of the Parliamentary Group, while the political leader of the Fier Region and an experienced politician Enkelejd Alibeaj will be the PD candidate for deputy chairman of Assembly, and at the same time deputy chairman of the DP.

The Secretary General Gazment Bardhi is reconfirmed in office, with an important contribution in the election campaign of April 25 as a Political Leader in a difficult district like that of Elbasan.

Edi Paloka, will be nominated for Chairman of the National Council of the Democratic Party.

Sources inside the Blue Headquarters announced yesterday that Edmond Spaho, the former deputy chairman of the Democratic Party, has asked to hold only the position of deputy.

Elected MP, writer and publisher Flutura Açka has been nominated for an important post, that of Chairwoman of the Appeals, Integrity and Ethics Committee.

Jemin Gjana, has been nominated as Chairman of the Election Commission.

For two priority issues for the Democratic Party, those of property and the persecuted, Lulzim Basha has decided to have dedicated secretariats, which are also entrusted to women.

For Secretary of Property and Property Affairs, Basha has nominated Ledina Mandian, who comes from a rich legal experience with a special focus in this field. While Jonila Godole, a new addition to the Democratic Party, will be Secretary for the Politically Persecuted, an area in which she has made a major contribution over many years.

The economy, investment climate and business relationship remain the Democratic Party's top priority. In order to be as close as possible to his business and concerns, Basha has created the Secretariat for Business Climate, for which the name of the Political Leader of Kukës Region, and the entrepreneur Flamur Hoxha, has been proposed.

Guaranteeing the vote of immigrants will be a priority of the DP. Therefore, in order to absorb expertise, experience, opinion, create opportunities to contribute to a better Albania, emigrants and the diaspora will have a dedicated secretariat. This secretariat, which embodies Basha's priority for immigrants and the diaspora and is being established for the first time, has been proposed to be headed by Belind Kelliçi.

Oriela Nebiaj, who has given her first contribution to the DP as a spokesperson, to continue as a candidate for the presidency of the FRPD and recently returning as a candidate for MP in Tirana, will be Secretary for Partner Organizations.

Two ladies have been nominated for the Secretariat of Human Resources and that of Public Relations, Arta Sakja, with a long contribution to the Democratic Party and the MP from Shkodra, Greta Bardeli.

For the position of Organizational Secretary, it is proposed Mr. Ervin Minarolli, while

Secretary for Legal and Electoral Affairs, the proposed name is Ivi Kaso.

For the first time, the Secretariat of Electoral Coordination and the Secretariat of Digital Organization are established. Taulant Zeneli and Endri Hasa have been nominated for these two positions.

Researcher and pedagogue Enriketa Papa - Pandelejmoni has been appointed by the leader of the Democratic Party for the position of chairwoman of the Foundation for Freedom and Democracy.

Meanwhile, the division of responsibilities in the new Parliamentary Group has been clarified. The group to be led by Party Vice President Alfred Rushaj will have two Vice Presidents: Ervin Salianjin and Luciano Bocin. The task of the Group Spokesperson has been entrusted to Orjola Pampuri, while that of the Secretary of the Parliamentary Group, the new deputy of Vlora Arbi Agalliu.
