Authorities have reportedly discovered cocaine and hashish during a surprise inspection at Albania’s high-security Prison 313, located in the “Jordan Misja” complex in Tirana.

According to preliminary information officers found 17 doses of cocaine and 13 doses of hashish inside the cell of Oltjon Asllani, a 28-year-old man accused of attempted murder.

Investigators are reportedly examining the possibility that the drugs were smuggled into the prison through food delivered by a family member.

Asllani was arrested after an August 22 incident in the Kombinat area of Tirana, where he allegedly opened fire with a Kalashnikov at a moving vehicle following a violent confrontation with several people. The shooting also caused panic among passersby after Asllani allegedly exited the vehicle while carrying the weapon.

According to investigators, Asllani had earlier been physically assaulted by four people. Following the confrontation, he allegedly obtained a firearm and, accompanied in a vehicle by his 30-year-old friend Serxho Bajza, also arrested in the case, began shooting at a car carrying two of the men involved in the dispute.

Both men are facing charges related to attempted murder under qualifying circumstances, according to the preliminary investigation.

The discovery of the narcotics has prompted further investigation into how the substances entered the high-security facility and whether others may have been involved.
