EIB Opens Representative Office in Albania

The European Investment Bank (EIB) will open its representative office in Albania.

With the proposal of the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Council of Ministers decided at the last meeting, the approval, in principle, of the agreement between the Republic of Albania and the European Investment Bank, regarding the opening of the representative office of the European Investment Bank in Albania. This decision enters into force immediately.

The European Investment Bank is one of the important financial institutions that supports through financing important projects in various sectors of the Albanian economy.

The European Investment Bank offers its support to important sectors of the economies of the Western Balkan countries that aspire to join the European Union.

The EIB has been active in Albania since 1995. The focus of the bank has been supporting key transport infrastructure to improve inter-regional integration and connectivity to Europe. One example is the construction of the motorway bypass for the city of Vlora.

In 2019, the bank signed its first urban development loan to the country’s capital under the Economic Resilience Initiative. Besides reducing pollution in the Lana River in Tirana, the project will reorganize streets and urban space near both banks.

Lately, the bank supported along with the Albanian Development Fund (ADF) investments for the sustainable tourism development of Northern Albania and the Adriatic coastline.

Under the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), we provide financing and technical assistance to the energy, environment, social, transport, and digital infrastructure sectors: Albania broadband and the Mati River Flood Protection Infrastructure projects, to name a few.
