Elbasan with the Highest Number of Covid Hospitalized Patients
Based on the official data of the Ministry of Health, it can be seen that although Tirana has the highest number of active infected with about 42% of the total, Elbasan has the highest percentage of cases that end up in hospital.
Five Percent of coronavirus infected in Elbasan are in poor health and consequently are hospitalized in COVID 1 and 3 hospitals.
Environmentalists link the disturbing figures of Elbasan with the pollution of the environment caused by heavy industry and the decrease of the immunity of the population. Environmentalist Ahmet Mehmeti calls on state authorities to take measures for the high level of pollution.
"Polluted environment is the cause of many lung diseases, one of these is Covid 19. Elbasan has higher morbidity rates, because of the environment, which has weakened immunity. These people who are affected are the best indicator of environmental pollution in Elbasan. Industry and air pollution have left traces on people's health, making it more vulnerable. It calls on state authorities to take measures for the high level of pollution", said Mehmeti.
Public Health Specialists associate severe cases in Elbasan with low level of vaccination, as citizens have preferences to be vaccinated with Pfizer. According to the epidemiologist Erleta Hila, it is noticed that severe cases have not received any of the doses of Covid vaccine.
"We have people who have been infected for the second time but are rarer. People who have not been vaccinated have a more severe clinical course towards fatalities. I call on everyone to go and get vaccinated due to the increase in cases", said Erleta Hila.
After Elbasan, severe cases of Covid infection belong to Korça with 4.2% of active infected hospitalized. Next is Gjirokastra with 3.4% of active cases in the hospital. Among the 12 regions, Tirana ranks 10th with only 1.2% of active cases in the hospital. While Dibra remains the only district that for several months has not had any of the active cases with hospitalized patients.
