Electronic ID Devices for April 25 Election Operationally Tested

Central Election Commission (CEC) has conducted Friday the operational testing of electronic identification devices, which will be used in the April 25 general elections.

The devices will verify if a voter belongs to that polling station, if a voter attempts to vote more than once, or if a voter is at the wrong polling station, and others, as well as visual signals and acoustic provided by the device for such cases.

On his part, the State Election Commissioner, Ilirjan Celibashi said that this process will be very simple for the citizens, while Deputy Commissioner Lealba Pelinku stated that 3% of the equipment was randomly selected to test the compliance of the criteria by the CEC in relation to what the equipment offers.

During the elections day, the voters will go to polling stations with their ID cards or biometric passports, so as to be identified through the PEI device, where in addition to the identification document he will also leave fingerprints (fingerprints), which will be used for identified cases of illegal voting, revealed the CEC.

“Today, the Central Election Commission conducted the operational testing of electronic voter identification devices, which will be used in the elections of April 25, 2021.

The Electronic Voter Identification System (SEIV) will be implemented for voter identification and Electronic Identification Equipment (IEP) located in 5,199 polling stations will be used, which will ensure the accurate identification of voters, based on the electronic register of voters kept in the device.

At the end of the testing of all equipment, a report will be drafted to identify the functionality of the PEI equipment, and the fulfillment of the criteria required by the CEC in relation to what the electronic voter identification verification system offers.

The electronic identification process will include the same identification principles as performed under manual conditions”, declared the Elections Commission.
