EU Praises Serbia's Recognition of Kosovo License Plates

The spokesperson of the European Union, Peter Stano, has called Serbia's decision to officially recognize the license plates of RKS vehicles, issued by Kosovo, a positive step towards the implementation of the Agreement.

In an answer to TIME, Stano said that this action shows that "it is possible to achieve progress in the process of normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia". He requested that Kosovo act similarly.

"We welcome Serbia's decision to officially recognize RKS vehicle license plates issued by Kosovo. This decision is a positive step in the implementation of the Agreement on the Normalization Path, as well as in the past commitments of the Dialogue regarding Freedom of Movement. It shows that it is possible to achieve progress in the process of normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia. It also constitutes a step in the right direction towards better regional and European integration of the Western Balkans, which ultimately benefits the citizens of the region. This decision paves the way for the complete removal of the sticker regime. The EU now expects that Kosovo will respond in a similar way", said the EU spokesperson.

The Director of the Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, said on Monday that the Government of Serbia has made the decision that enables freedom of movement for all vehicles from Kosovo, which was its obligation under the 2011 Agreement.
