Farewell to Father of Albanian Cinematography

In the lobby of the University of Arts, tributes were paid to the "father" of Albanian cinema, Kristaq Dhamo, whose died on August 14 in a hospital in Ancona, Italy, under the care of family members. 

Granddaughter recounts her grandfather's bequest to Albanian films: "His desire was to be remembered and his films to continue to be shown." The story of the first Albanian feature film "Tana" begins with his name. But along with the journey of Albanian cinema, the careers of acting icons also begin. 

Tinka Kurti, in "Tana", who a few days ago at the premiere of the restored film 64 years later remembers him like this: "I was at a table and I see that these great artists were brought there, I told him who this Shubert is, no he said he came from Hungary, he is an Arts student". 

Margarita Xhepa in "Vitet e para", the actress who appreciates his nobility: "Kristaq Dhamo was an artist who oozed simplicity and kindness. I've known him since Lushnje and after he came from studies in Hungary, he started the film Tana, then I got involved with Kristaq." 

With Dhamo's film "Detyre e Zaçme" the path to cinema also begins for Roza Anagnosti: "I am very excited, I have the most extraordinary impressions about Kristaq." 

Director Kristaq Mitro considered it a school for generations, and says that he learned the ABCs of cinema with him: "It is a myth for Albanian cinema." 

While cinematographer Piro Milkani spoke about the warm atmosphere that was created when working with Dhamo. 

Cinematographer Joni Shanaj, who is also making a documentary film dedicated to the director, says that Albanian film lost one of the pioneers and the most knowledgeable people who worked at the former Kinostudio. 

The Ministry of Culture enabled the arrival of the body of the famous artist from Italy to Tirana to fulfill his bequest to be laid to rest on Albanian soil. 

Dhamo is known as the father of Albanian cinematography. He made the first Albanian feature film "Tana" in 1958.

With applause from his artist friends, he is escorted to the grave. Dhamo has provided valuable assistance in the preparation of young cinematography students by organizing several professional courses.
