First Bird Flu Cases Confirmed in Albania

First cases of bird influenza are confirmed in Albania, has announced this Tuesday the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, which ensures that it is monitoring the situation.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the disease is present only in 3 locations, respectively in the Administrative Unit Fushë-Kruja, in the Administrative Unit Dajt and in the Administrative Unit Bujan.

Meanwhile, the Ministry revealed that has been drafted a plan of measures, consisting firstly of the abolition of poultry and eggs from the countries where the disease has been confirmed.

In addition, the Veterinary Service carried out the elimination of affected and suspicious birds, as well as took measures to prevent further spread of the disease, communicated the ministry as it notified the national level prohibition of the trade of live birds in open spaces and in live animal markets.

“Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is closely monitoring the epidemiological situation in the bird population in our country.

Following the announcement given by the World Organization for Animal Health, about the presence of the Avian Influenza virus in some countries of the region and beyond, by order of Minister Milva Ekonomi, a plan of protection measures was drafted.

After analyzing samples from suspicious cases in yard birds, at the Institute of Food Safety and Veterinary (ISUV), the presence of Avian Influenza (Avian Influenza) type H5N8 was confirmed.

Regarding intensive complexes, so far there are no suspected cases. It is important to note that products and by-products originating from these birds do not pose a risk to consumer health”, announced the Ministry of Agriculture.
