General Prosecutor's Office and the Ibero-American Association of Public Ministries (AIAMP) signed a memorandum of understanding, where they expressed their readiness for cooperation in the fight against illegal traffic, money laundering and any other crime of common interest, as well as for the improvement of professional capacities and scientific in the field of criminal law. 

The memorandum was signed on the second day of the meeting that the Ibero-American Association of Public Prosecutors is holding in Cartagena, Colombia, July 28-29. Members of this association are the prosecutor's offices of Latin American countries and Spain. 

In his speech, the Prosecutor General, Mr. Olsian Çela, underlined the fact that cybercrime and the increasingly massive use of technology in committing crimes of a transnational nature, urgently requires an increase in human and technical capacities, capable to understand and cope with them. 

He also emphasized that “Globally, there is an increasing interaction between criminals of all kinds. They are successfully using all the possibilities that digitization offers. The exponential growth of the use of cryptocurrencies and the risk they pose in terms of security issues, such as the opportunities they create to facilitate money laundering, is a clear example of the urgent need to redefine crime-fighting models and strategies. There is no time to waste. We are forced to adapt our structures and priorities to these trends". 

According to the Prosecutor General, experiences and capacities will be consolidated through cooperation, as well as the cohesion of the organized institutional response to serious threats to common security will increase. 

EU4FOCAL assisted the process until the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding. 

During the meeting, a Cooperation Memorandum was also signed between Eurojust and the Ibero-American Association of Public Ministries (AIAMP).
