Gjirokastra Prosecution Initiated 2 Criminal Investigations Related to Offenses Impacting the Integrity of Free Elections
On April 23, 2025, based on the reports from Gjirokastra Local Police Directorate, criminal proceeding no. 248 was initiated for the offense of "Intentional Damaging of Electoral Material," as stipulated in Article 326/a of the Criminal Code. This action follows a report from a member of the Electoral Administrative Zone (EAZ) Dropull, stating that the official seal of this EAZ was missing.
As part of this case, initial procedural actions have been completed, and an investigative team has been established and is prioritizing all necessary steps to fully reveal the case.
This Prosecution, on the same day, has also registered case no.249 based on a complaint from citizen E.S. This case concerns the criminal offense of "Intimidation or Abuse against Participants in Elections" as stipulated in Article 329/1 of the Penal Code.
According to the report, on April 22, 2025, citizen E.S. stated that he was threatened by citizen A.M. via social media as a response to the opinions E.S. had shared regarding an electoral candidate.
The complaint alleges that A.M. used both threatening language and intimidating images in the communication. The investigation is ongoing as the Prosecution works to fully clarify the details of the case.
