Govt's Servers Attacked Several Times by Hackers; Kurti

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has stated that the government's servers have been attacked several times by hackers.

While participating in the discussion on "Cybersecurity: Is disinformation the next threat?", within the Conference on Information Integrity organized by NDI (National Democratic Institute), Kurti said that the defence of the state of Kosovo is solid, but that it is not enough about these attacks.

"I believe that we have a solid defence, but not enough. We have had two more prominent cases of DIDOS attacks on government servers and we have succeeded in spite of the setbacks they have caused us. So they have not managed to penetrate the system, to damage our system, but they have made it difficult for us to operate.

We are also learning from the case of Albania, but the attacks are not the only ones that want to harm or steal, there are also attacks within the framework of what is being called the hybrid war, that is, penetration with true quarters, fake news and often with false stories which are made public by certain centers", said Kurti.

Kurti stated that addressing cyber security threats requires cooperation with allies.

"Digitalization contributes to an inclusive and democratic society. We have developed a strategic roadmap for digitization. Our digital transformation progress has been recognized in the maturity index of the World Bank, where Kosovo has been raised from group C to B. Cyber attacks have the potential to cause significant damage to the point of jeopardizing national security. We have had several attacks on our government system. Disinformation has emerged as a danger that has the potential to create great risks for society. Addressing cybersecurity threats requires collaboration with allies and building bridges with stakeholders. This cyber security is important for the Government in the coming months", said Kurti.
