Greece Dismantles Notorious Albanian Gang of Thieves
Two Albanians and 3 women have been handcuffed the Greek police, after being accused of robbing 97 shops in Attica, the Hellenic media reported.
Albanians were part of a gang which according to the Greek police is responsible for many thefts in the neighboring country.
According to the Greek police, during a coordinated operation, two Albanians, aged 33 and 39, as well as three women, 25, 33 and 41, were arrested in Kamatero, Keratsini and Neo Faliro. At the same time, two other persons who are wanted are also co-accused.
The defendants initially monitored the movements of the private guards, of the targeted shops, and selected the right time to commit the theft. After removing the products, they placed them in specially designed bags, which did not activate the anti-theft systems at the entrances to the shops.
It is noticed that in order to minimize the possibility of their localization, they have taken care to change the areas where they are active and have avoided hitting for the second time the same store.
From the pre-investigative investigation so far, 97 cases of shoplifting in Attica have been investigated, where the financial benefit of the perpetrators exceeds the amount of 400 thousand euros.
During the police checks, a series of stolen items (clothing, electronic devices), 3 bags, specially designed with underwear that do not activate anti-theft systems, a metal device for removing anti-theft mechanisms of products were discovered. 4 cars and the amount of money of 4545 euros were found and confiscated. The detainees were taken to the Athens Public Prosecutor's Office.
The Police has discovered that the stolen products were initially stored in the members's homes and then with the appropriate anti-surveillance measures were transported and stored in an area that was used exclusively for this purpose.
Some of the stolen goods were sold directly by the defendants to third parties, while the other quantities were transported to Albania where they were resold, through a retail store, owned by a member of the organization.
