Head of Albanian Armed Forces Emphasizes Importance Of ‘Defender Europe 21’
The Head of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Bajram Begaj, held his speech at the start of the largest NATO military exercise "Defender Europe 21", in the Port of Durres, emphasizing the importance of this event.
General Begaj praised the development of this exercise of NATO troops in Albania, where he said that it is of great importance not only for the size, but also for the messages it conveys.
Among other things, Begaj stressed that the selection of Albania to conduct this exercise highlights its strategy, but also the opportunity to test all capabilities.
"I welcome you and thank you for your presence. We feel happy and proud to be here today to mark one of the most important events of our forces. This exercise is of great importance, not only for the size, but also for the message it conveys. About 23 thousand troops will conduct manoeuvres simultaneously. This aims to increase the preparedness and interoperability of NATO allies and partner countries, even in uncertain times, such as the pandemic. This exercise constitutes the core of collective defence. Albania and the Armed Forces have the honour and responsibility to provide hospitality for this exercise. The selection of Albania points out its strategy, to test all our capacities.
We will have a clearer picture of making strategic investments in the future, of developing our forces. This commitment of ours is an expression of US trust in Albania and NATO. It proves that we are prepared to defend ourselves and create stability. The presence of honourable American generals is clear evidence of the US support for our Armed Forces and Albania. 'Albania hits harder than its weight.' I assure the American generals that they will not find disappointment in us. I am grateful to the state authorities for their support. I believe that with our professionalism and dedication we will pave the way for the development of other activities of this size," said General Begaj.
