Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected Across Albania, Authorities Warn of Flooding Risks

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected across parts of Albania this afternoon and on Sunday, October 11, with the coastal district of Vlora facing the highest rainfall intensity, according to the Institute of Geosciences.

The institute forecasts moderate to locally heavy rainfall in the districts of Berat, Korçë and Gjirokastër, while moderate precipitation is expected in the remaining districts.

Thunderstorms are forecast across the entire country, raising concerns about potential flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

The most significant risks include landslides and urban water accumulation, particularly in the districts of Durrës and Vlora, depending on the capacity of local drainage systems, the official notice said.

Temperatures and Wind Conditions

Temperatures on Saturday are expected to range between 18°C and 20°C along the coast, 17°C and 20°C in lowland areas, and 12°C and 17°C in mountainous regions.

Winds this afternoon and on Sunday are forecast to remain light to moderate, occasionally strengthening to strong gusts.

Despite the expected rainfall and thunderstorms, the Institute of Geosciences reports no fire risk in any of Albania’s districts today or Sunday.

Residents, particularly those in areas prone to flooding and landslides, are advised to remain alert as weather conditions develop.
