Hungarian President Concerned over Situation in North Kosovo

The President of Hungary Katalin Novak has spoken from the Parliament of Albania regarding the tensions in the North of Kosovo. She said that these days it has been seen how little it takes to increase tensions and the situation to go to the level of war.

Novak emphasized that it is important to preserve the stability and security of the countries of the Western Balkans. She further stated that just as the Western Balkans need to be in the European Union, the EU also needs their membership.

"We had a very fruitful conversation. Not only as a woman I am for the first time as president, but also as a mother of three children. For me, this is the most important profession in my life. I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to give life three times. For me, today's visit to Tirana is very important because I am trying to do as much as possible in the diplomatic relations between the two countries.

We have a long friendly relationship with Albania. We respect, understand and support each other. I came to Albania at a critical time. Europe is facing difficulties. First of all, the war in Ukraine and the consequences of this war. In second place, the Western Balkans and its instability. And thirdly, the continuous increase of illegal immigration. Fourthly, the democratic challenges. Fifth, the world political power of Europe is in question. I have to talk about the war in Ukraine.

Everyone was surprised with what happened in Ukraine., Russia's decision to attack its neighbour has put us in a new situation. I want to mention that as a neighbour of Ukraine we helped 2 million refugees. Most of them did not stay for long. We are there when we need to provide humanitarian aid. The war must end as soon as possible. We see the increase in electricity prices, inflation, we see fear in the eyes of people in Europe. Everyone fears that the war may reach his nation. Secondly I mentioned stability. We all see Ukraine but we forget how important it is for the Western Balkans to have peace and security.

How little is needed to increase tensions so that it then goes to the level of war. It is important to maintain the stability and security of the countries of the Western Balkans. In Kosovo, there are 400 Hungarian soldiers in the KFOR mission, 20 were injured during the recent attacks. Most of them are in hospital. I am convinced that the stability of the Western Balkans is key to European integration. The peace and security of Europe depends a lot on the Western Balkans. We support the integration of Albania in the EU. That's why we want you, to greet you as citizens of the EU. We also need you within the EU", she said.
