Kruje, Prosecution to Investigate Mass Poisoning

Prosecution has launched this Tuesday an investigation into the mass poisoning that was registered in Kruja, where almost 400 citizens ended up in hospital during the last two days.

Official sources confirmed for albaniandailynews.com that prosecution is investigating ‘air and water pollution’.

Sources from the Kruja Police also revealed that there are 2 tanks in the city, drinking water of which is suspected to have been mixed sewage water.

From Sunday until today, about 370 citizens have gone to the hospital of Kruja to get medical treatment for their health condition.

Regarding the massive poisoning situation, the Director of the hospital, Yllka Kukali Sheta assured earlier today that the situation is being monitored and that there have been no serious cases of patients' health condition.

In her statement, Director Sheta stressed that all necessary conditions and medications have been provided for the patients, but also the healthcare professionals are on full alert, although some citizens might stay in line.

"The situation is under control. It is not the first time we have faced difficult situations. We faced a pandemic, but we will face the same.

The medicines are all there, there was nothing missing, not even beds… There may be cases waiting because you can not serve all patients on time, but the staff and doctors are on full alert ", she further said.

Also, the director of the hospital has reacted to the speech of the deputy Merita Bakiu held in the parliament yesterday, which said that the hospital lacks medical capacities.

Sheta rejected the criticism, stressing that all measures have been taken and that the hospital has dignified conditions.

"The employment of doctors works through the portal for Albania. Hospital services have not been and will not be lacking… Regarding the lack of a generator, I say that the Kruja hospital is connected to a safe line.

It is true that there were two or three cases, but it was in the whole Municipality of Kruja and we took measures. There has never been a hospital generator and I do not intend to spend taxpayer money.

As for the concern for the laboratories, I tell them that the hospital is equipped with all the necessary equipment for a dignified service", she said.

Also some patients have indicated that this event has almost affected a large part of the city, while one patient has shown symptoms such as colic and vomiting, and has expressed that there has been no lack of medication from the hospital.

Currently, there are about 320 people receiving medical treatment. Meanwhile, samples were taken from DFS which were sent for examination.
