Italian Anti-Mafia Cracks Down on Albanian Drug Gang
A major police action has been carried out by the Italian authorities in cooperation with the Belgian and German ones, directed by the Chief Anti-Mafia Prosecutor of Catanzaro Nicola Grattteri, coordinated by Eurojust.
From the operation executed this Monday morning, 25 arrest-warrant were issued, among them Albanians involved in a mega drug traffic in Europe, as well as their cooperation with the Calabrian mafia clans, "Ndrangheta".
Specifically, it is learned that among the 25 arrest warrants issued by order of the Italian Prosecutor's Office, the majority are Albanians residing in Belgium, and among them it turns out that the name of the Albanian Fisnik Smajlaj, who was wanted since 2008, and who was able to escape arrest.
The 25 persons against whom the detention measures were executed are accused of participating in criminal activity, international trafficking of narcotics, possession of weapons without a permit, etc.
At the same time, on Monday morning, the order to seize property worth 3.8 million euros was executed against the persons placed under arrest.
Operation "Gentelman2" is a continuation of operation "Gentelman" executed in 2015, which led to the destruction of a drug trafficking network through South America, the Netherlands, Albania and Italy.
In two years of investigation, the Italian anti-mafia revealed that about 3 tons of drugs, cocaine and heroin of very pure quality, worth over 45 million euros, had been trafficked.
