Minister Donika Gervalla.

Kosovo Considers Mini-Schengen Idea as Dangerous

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla, participated in the informal discussion between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the EU and the Balkan countries, which was held in Brdo Pri Kranj, Slovenia, hosted by the Slovenian Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Gasper Dovzan.

Minister Gërvalla, in her speech, said that Kosovo is on the right track in terms of pandemic management issues. Speaking about regional cooperation, Gërvalla focused on the idea of a common regional market as a plan and strategy for regional cooperation and conflict resolution. She stressed that there are actors in the Balkans who are trying to undermine this concept by trying to return to the old days in this region, when political and economic clashes were interconnected.

"They call it 'mini Schengen and they keep telling us that this is not against the road to the EU. But this is not true. We are told that it serves regional cooperation. Even this is not true", said Gërvalla.

Further, the Kosovar chief diplomat called on the European Union to take the necessary steps to stop this process before it is too late. "This process can be very dangerous for stability and peace in the Balkans," Gërvalla said.
