Kosovo Criticized for Placing Albanian Flags in North
Albanian symbols placed in the north of Kosovo on the occasion of the Independence Day of Albania have alarmed Belgrade.
The national flags of Albania have also been distributed to the houses of Albanians in Kllokot, but it seems that this worries Serbia.
Petar Petkovic, the director of the so-called Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, has called the placement of these flags a provocation aimed at scaring the Serbs, although according to the laws, the placement of flags is allowed throughout the territory of the republic.
"Albanian flags have nothing to look for next to Serbian houses and near the Church of Saint Peter and Paul, and therefore this 'inappropriate decoration' cannot be interpreted otherwise than as a provocation," Petkovic's statement reads.
"Albanians have the right to celebrate their holidays, but it is inappropriate when they do so in areas inhabited by Serbs, which interrupt celebrations, weddings and other celebrations," this statement continues.
"We call on the Albanians in Kosovo not to use the Albanian Flag Day to deepen the inter-ethnic gap and to frighten and provoke the Serbs", concludes the communiqué.
This statement comes despite the fact that in places where Serbs live in Kosovo, not only in the North, but also in other cities in the south of Kosovo, there are Serbian flags displayed all the time.
