Kosovo's Deputy PM Banned from Visiting Serbia 'for Security Reasons'
The Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi, was banned from a two-day visit to Serbia by the Police of this country "for security reasons" shortly before he arrived in Belgrade. This was confirmed by Bislim's spokesperson, Klisman Kadiu. After that, he returned to Kosovo.
Bislimi had left for Belgrade on October 27 to participate in two roundtable discussions on Kosovo-Serbia dialogue issues.
Bislimi, who at the same time is the leader of the talks with Serbia at the level of chief negotiators, was expected to participate in the discussions on the topic "Kosovo and the European perspective of the region", within the Forum for Ethnic Relations, which is held on September 27.
He was also expected to participate in the Belgrade Security Conference on Friday and will be part of the panel on "Kosovo and Serbia - avoiding the dead end".
Even earlier, Bislim had visited Serbia. In September, together with the Minister of Education, Arbërie Nagavci, they had visited the municipalities in the south of Serbia, inhabited by an Albanian majority.
Kosovo and Serbia have been holding dialogue for the normalization of relations with the mediation of the European Union since 2011. The international factor is making efforts to encourage the parties to complete this process. However, the two countries have different attitudes regarding the end of the process. Kosovo demands that mutual recognition be included in a final agreement, while Serbia demands a compromise solution, without specifying what kind of compromise it is.
