Local Elections, Majority Favours Current Administrative Division

Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party (SP), Taulant Balla announced Monday that the ruling majority supports the current division of Albania, with 61 municipalities and 12 districts.

This stance by the Socialists has been made public after the Democratic Party (DP) proposed that Albania is divided into 95 municipalities, which means 34 more than the current number.

Earlier on, Democrat MP Enkelejd Alibeaj considered the stance of socialists as a provocation for the upcoming elections, while Balla emphasized that the SP will win the elections and there is no need for Alibeaj to take it as a provocation.

"SP will win the local elections. It is not a provocation but a fact. We have proven that we are a party with the power of change even in those municipalities that we have returned to after many years. Kamez Municipality, ask the residents and they will confirm that for 3 years we have done work that has not been done for 30 years. Citizens know that you must have a socialist mayor.

With the Parliamentary group, we received information from the experts and after receiving the proposals and evaluating the territorial division, they suggested to us that there are proposals to increase the number or decrease the number. The even larger Tirana municipality includes Vora and a part of Kamza.

Version of the experts told us to stay in this division. Even if the reform is done, it will be implemented in 2027. For the benefit of the work of the municipalities, we will stick to this, with a concrete report", said Balla.
