Man Who Punched Berisha Left in Prison

Gerti Shehu, the 31-year-old who attacked the chief democrat Sali Berisha in the December 6 protest, has been placed under the security measure of "imprisonment" by the Court of Appeal.

In this way, the Court of Appeal rejected the requests of defense lawyers for admitting him to a psychiatric hospital, as well as to place him to "house arrest".

So far, he has shown no remorse for the action. As for the mental state of the suspected person, a medical document was issued at the beginning of the trial, according to which it was proved that he might have mental problems, but the prosecution requested another expertise.

Gert Shehu, 31 years old, attacked the leader of the DP Sali Berisha, while the latter was marching towards the boulevard "Dëshmorët e Kombit" to participate in the protest. The 31-year-old punched Berisha in the face, making him bleed.

He was immediately detained by Berisha's bodyguards and in the meantime was beaten up by DP supporters. The 31-year-old was escorted by the police and received treatment at the Trauma hospital, as he suffered facial injuries and a fractured nose.
