Mayor of Kuçova Facing Potential Dismissal after Greece Sentencing

Re-election is expected to be held in the municipality of Kuçova, as the mayor Kreshnik Hajdari is in danger of being dismissed.

Decriminalization can be the reason for Hajdar's dismissal, as it turns out that the mayor has not declared a court sentencing.

According to a document received by the Central Elections Commission (KQZ), Kreshnik Hajdari was criminally convicted in 1999 for the charge of "entering the Greek territory illegally".

The mayor was sentenced to 4 months in prison, converted into a fine, in the amount of 1500 drachmas by the Court of Ioannina.

The decision has already been in the hands of the CEC for several days and on Tuesday, November 14, the CEC will hold a public discussion session on the investigative material sent by the Decriminalization Office to the General Prosecutor's Office for the socialist Kreshnik Hajdar.

In the elections of May 14, 2023, Kreshnik Hajdari of the Socialist Party won the municipality of Kuçova with a margin of over 600 over Lefter Maliqi of the "Together We Win" Coalition, while Ilirjan Koxhaj of the Democratic Party was ranked third.

Hajdari himself, apart from not admitting to having knowledge of the punishment, considered the case as administrative and that it did not prevent him from running for and being elected as the head of the Municipality of Kuçova with the argument that it does not constitute the elements of a mandatory declaration.

But in fact, the information coming from Greece says otherwise, where it is emphasized that Hajdari was present at the announcement of the decision that determined, in addition to the punishment, his immediate deportation from Greece.

Meanwhile, Hajdari is also under investigation by SPAK for the charge of "Forgery of the self-declaration form" but also for a report by Lefter Maliqi who ran against him in the elections and who accuses him of a series of violations before, during and after the elections in Kuçovo.

According to the decriminalization law "To guarantee the integrity of persons who are elected, appointed or exercise public functions", the right to be elected to the public functions of deputy, mayor or member of the municipal council is prohibited to persons with previous criminal records .

It will be the CEC that, in the public discussion session on Tuesday, will decide on the investigative material sent by the Decriminalization Office to the General Prosecutor's Office for the socialist Kreshnik Hajdar.
