Murder of Ex-Policeman, Family Members in Tears at Special Court
The session at Special Court of Appeal against Organized Crime and Corruption for the murder of ex-policeman Santiago Malko against the suspects Ilir Selmani and Elvis Gaci has brought strong debates and tears from the victim's family members.
Blendi Teta, who was sentenced to 25 years for this event, was also included in this session, who was present in the hall. The presence of those accused of murdering the young man has brought strong reactions and tears to the victim's family members.
Santiago Malko's mother and sister burst into screams against the convicted. Bukurije Malko addressed Blendi Teta with the words "Scoundrel, you killed my son". Judge Atalanta Zeqiri intervened to calm the parties due to the sensitivity of the event.
Recently, a part of the testimony of the convict Blendi Teta, who stood by the same previous statements, has been disclosed.
"I don't want to give statements, I stand by the statements I gave on 19.7.2021 when I spoke before the court in my process. I do not want the statements to be read without the presence of my lawyer, because those statements given to the Tirana police department should not be taken as a basis, because they did as they pleased. I also have a request to protect my wife and children because they have been threatened constantly and are being threatened by the lady and the gang behind her," he said.
This sentence said by Blendi Teta caused Santiago Malko's sister to burst into tears. She stood up shouting and insulting Teta, which made the prison police to force her out of the courtroom so that the hearing could proceed normally. The prosecution requested that the statements given in the preliminary phase be read, but the request was opposed by Ilir Selmani's defense.
The jury retreated and decided to grant Blendi Teta's motion to leave the courtroom and overrule the prosecutor's request to read Blendi Teta's statements. Ilir Selamani was not present at the session, while the prosecution is asking for his statements regarding this event to be taken at the next session.
Former policeman Santiago Malko was executed on the evening of August 27, 2019 in the "Xhamllik" area in Tirana, in his "BMW X5" car. It is suspected that he was a victim of the clashes between two rival gangs in Tirana.
