New Bridge of Kukës Opens for Traffic
Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, inaugurated on Monday the New Bridge of Kukës along the Milot-Morina highway, after several months of delay from the initial promise of the head of government.
The new bridge with a cost of around Euro 40 million eases the traffic towards Kosovo by avoiding the old bridge at the entrance of the city of Kukës.
"An impressive work, which finally frees traffic that has been stuck for years and gives a meaningful answer to all people who filled social networks with fake news," wrote Rama on Facebook.
Prime Minister Rama considered the bridge an impressive work, which finally freed traffic. The accesses of the surrounding communities were also being ensured, Rama noted.
"It is very important that the bridge opens for everyone, even for those who did not say anything about the bridge, until the news from the window that the legs were broken off the bridge. While this one has no legs because its body is stretched along a space of light, which is among the largest of a bridge in Europe," said Rama.
The Prime Minister emphasized that thanks to the talent and experience of the Italian designer, but also thanks to the work done by the company, the bridge is now opened. "The bridge was finished, but the conditions had to be met for 2 or 3 other communities around this area, which had to be given access to guarantee the ease of transportation for them," said Rama.
On the other hand, Deputy PM Balluku pointed out that when the Milot-Morina highway was taken over by the current government, “it was a road almost not even half of its final volumes and we continue to improve it.”
Balluku considered the bridge a work of art while stating that it was designed by one of the most famous Italian architects. "The work done from 2020 until today has been colossal for this bridge and the entire completion of the Nation’s Road," she said.
The new bridge over the Drin River has a total length of 310 meters, while the metal arch has a base of 270 meters and a height of 56 meters.
The bridge has 4 lanes, in both directions of movement with intermediate traffic dividers and steel cables that are fixed from the foundation to the arch of the bridge.
