Powerful 5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Struck Central Italy

A powerful 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Italy this Wednesday morning. According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center, the earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometers.

Epicenter of the earthquake was marked on the coast, about 64 km east of Rimini. In advance, there are no reports of injured persons. But the images shared on social networks show extensive material damage.

Rail transport was suspended as a precaution in Ancona, due to suspected damage to the tracks, pending inspections. 

Mayor of Senigallia in the province of Ancona, Massimo Olivetti, has ordered the closure of schools and all institutions to verify the stability of the buildings. The same decision was taken in Fano, Pesaro and Ancona: schools of all levels were closed until a second decision.

Ancona firefighters report that the Villa Igea private clinic is partially evacuating the facility. The earthquake was felt in almost all of central and northern Italy. In Bologna and Romagna the shock was felt especially in the upper floors of the buildings.
