President Calls for Free COVID-19 Test of Albanians at Borders with Greece

President Ilir Meta has called on the Albanian government to conduct free coronavirus testing for emigrants who are on the 5th day of queue on the borders with Greece.

According to Meta, Albanian citizens cannot be treated as if they were without a homeland or without a state, and he considers acts of force unacceptable.

He further appealed for contacts with Greece to be constant and for an immediate solution to the situation as these images disgrace the images of both countries.

"Albanian citizens, who have been at the Kakavija border crossing point for days, in extremely difficult conditions and on the verge of a humanitarian crisis, cannot be treated as people without a homeland and without a state.

I repeat the strong call to the Albanian government to stay close to the citizens and to take all measures for information and transparency and to perform free COVID-19 tests to the place where they are located.

Contacts with Greece to be constant and only in function of an immediate solution. Acts of force are unacceptable!

I urge the Greek authorities, in respect of the spirit of good neighborliness and strong traditional ties between the two peoples, to do their utmost to resolve the situation, the images of which puts shame on both countries," said Meta.
