Protesters Rally in Tirana to Defend Protected Zvërnec Area
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in central Tirana on Monday to protest in support of the protected area of Zvërnec, bringing environmental concerns back into the national spotlight.
Protesters initially assembled outside the Ministry of Interior before preparing to march toward the Prime Minister’s Office. Many carried banners reading “Albania Is Not for Sale” alongside other political and environmental slogans.
The demonstration marks the second consecutive day of public mobilization following calls circulated on social media.
A day earlier, thousands of citizens marched from the Tirana Police Directorate to the Ministry of Interior before concluding their rally outside the Prime Minister’s Office, underscoring growing public engagement in environmental issues and the preservation of protected natural areas.
The latest protests highlight increasing concern among citizens over the future of Zvërnec and broader questions surrounding environmental protection and land use policies in Albania.
