Rama Accepted Fredi Beleri as Himara Mayor; Greek Minister
The Foreign Minister of Greece, Giorgos Gerapetritis, has commented on the reaction of Prime Minister Edi Rama the day before regarding the case of Fredi Beleri. In an interview for the Greek state television ERT, Gerapetritis said that the fact that Prime Minister Edi Rama accepted Fredi Beleri as the elected mayor of Himara is a positive step.
"Actually, there was a positive step by the Albanian Prime Minister, who in principle accepted that we have a new mayor and the former mayor Goro must definitely leave. Then we will assess whether the next actions are compatible with those we have set as a condition", Gerapetritis said.
Commenting on the post of the Prime Minister of Albania on social networks, Gerapetritis emphasized that "for the first time, Edi Rama accepted the results of the elections and expressly named Fredi Beleri as the elected mayor".
He added that "the Albanian prime minister even admitted that the former mayor cannot hold the office and underlined: "For the moment, what needs to be done is the immediate replacement of the incumbent, Mr. Goro."
Referring to the decision of the Albanian court on corruption and organized crime, he noted that he has taken several considerations, including that Fredi Beleri is the elected mayor of Himara and that at the moment being held in temporary custody prevents him from taking the oath and take office and that former mayor Goro cannot serve as mayor.
