Reduction of Sentence Case of Vlora’s Gangster Resolved

The impasse that held hostage the fate of Myrteza Çaushi, one of the leaders of the most powerful gangs in our country during 1997, has been resolved.

The Court of Korça has been designated as competent for considering the case of Zani Çaushi or as it is otherwise known as "The Gangster of Çola".

The decision was taken on Saturday, where the announcement states that the dispute of subject competence between the Korçë Judicial District Court and the Mat Judicial District Court was resolved for the consideration of the case with the object of "reduction of sentence", determining the Court of the Korçë Judicial District, as the competent court for examining the case."

Myrteza Çaushi is sentenced to life imprisonment for creating a gang that committed several murders mainly during 1997.

In this year, the aforementioned was incarcerated in the rehabilitation home with high quality insurance, where he managed to escape during a riot that broke out in the prison.

On the other hand, Çaushi was also sentenced by the Greek justice to 101 years in prison for murder, but managed to escape prison.

He has requested several times to be released on bail. Çaushi is serving his sentence in high security in Drenova. Earlier, he was imprisoned in Mat, where he requested a reduction of the sentence, but without success.

Now it will be the Court of Korça that will decide whether there will be a reduced sentence for this well-known figure in the world of crime.
