President of the Republic, Ilir Meta has expressed his condolences to the family of renown cardiologist, Prof. Dr. Sabit Brokaj, who passed away this Sunday at the age of 78 as a result of a heart attack.

President Medta described as bad news that of the death of Professor Sabit Brokaj, recalling he was a prominent doctor and intellectual, always engaged in national affairs as an MP and minister.

"It is sad news that of the death of Professor Sabit Brokaj, a prominent doctor and intellectual, always engaged in national affairs as an MP and minister. 

I express my deepest condolences to the Brokaj family, relatives and friends for this irreplaceable loss that hurt all of us who knew him in person. Let the memory of Professor Brokaj be unforgettable!" Meta stated.
 

Brokaj was one of the most famous cardiologists in the country and also served as Enver Hoxha's personal doctor. Brokaj was elected Member of Parliament in 1991, 1996 and 1997. On July 25, 1997, Brokaj was appointed Minister of Defense, a position he held until 1999.
