Renowned Albanian academic Rexhep Qosja has passed away, according to a statement released by his family this Thursday.

In an official notice, family members confirmed that Qosja died earlier the same day and was laid to rest in a private burial ceremony attended only by close relatives.

“We inform you that today, April 23, 2026, Rexhep Qosja has passed away and has been buried. The funeral was held in the presence of close family members only,” the statement read.

Respecting the wishes of the late academic, the family announced that no public memorial ceremonies will be organised and that they will not participate in institutional commemorations.

The family also requested privacy during this time of mourning, asking the public and media to allow them to grieve in peace.

Rexhep Qosja was widely regarded as one of the most influential intellectual figures in Albanian literature and academia.
