Deputy PM Belinda Balluku

Road Projects Respond to Tourism Flow

The development of road infrastructure according to the best standards and parameters is an important support in promoting tourism and the country's economy, Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, at the same time Minister of Infrastructure and Energy said on Friday.

Balluku was present at the meeting "Safe Roads, safe tourism", together with the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, and the Minister of the Interior Taulant Balla.

During her speech, Balluku said, "Already in our country, we have completed a good part of the investments in the national road segments from the north to the south of the country according to the best standards".

Balluku also announced the launch of the road safety awareness campaign. "We will have for the first time in Albania Thumanë-Kashar highway with 130 km/h that will require increased attention from the police, as he added that road infrastructure projects respond better to the increased flow of tourists,” Balluku emphasized.

According to her, the need for e-transport has arisen as a request for foreign citizens, since those who come to see Albania do not stop at just one destination. For this reason, the Ministry of Infrastructure has created all the conditions and e-transport is a very important module.

"On the other hand, there is the Blue Corridor, a line that connects Albania with the rest of Europe. From June 30, the Thumanë-Kashar segment will be accessible to all citizens," said Balluku.

"On the other hand, all heavy tonnage vehicles that exceed the specified tonnage will be penalized. It should also be said that the Llogara Tunnel will open a new gate in just seven minutes. Something else very important that was mentioned by both colleagues is the sensitivity that the citizens themselves should have," she continued.

"If the driver is texting on the phone while driving, the police cannot help. We had the case of a person last summer who killed an entire family. Violations of the traffic code are common, not only by young people but also by experienced drivers. Therefore, the responsibility is personal to each driver and we will monitor the road code, similar to the European Union," said Balluku.

"The traffic monitoring center will be the center where the road traffic bodies will all be together. We have undertaken that this year there will also be a radio in real time to inform you to avoid traffic where you are. On the other hand, I'll give you an example, at the entrance of Rrogozhina you will have a sign indicating for the traffic that everyone chooses the road of Elbasan, while often the road that passes through Kavaja and Durrësi is not chosen by the citizens. Therefore, traffic problems will be solved through these signs," Balluku emphasized.
