Serbia-Kosovo Tensions, US Official Says Abandoning Institutions Is Not the Answer
Karen Donfried, the US Deputy Secretary of State for European and Euro-Asian Affairs has reacted to the situation in the north of Kosovo. Donfried has called for the reduction of tensions and the implementation of the agreements reached. She emphasized that abandoning the institutions is not a solution.
"We are dealing 24 hours a day with the issue of monitoring the situation in the north of Kosovo. Serbia and Kosovo implement the agreements reached, we expect them to be implemented. We have welcomed the German-French proposal.
We think there is room for progress. Together with the EU, we support progress. The US thinks that the recent developments are disturbing, it is not a solution to abandon the institutions", she said.
Donfried emphasized that the US is in line with the EU regarding the solution of the problem through dialogue. "A call to reduce tensions in the north of Kosovo. The situation should not be escalated, the lives of those who are peacekeepers there are at risk. The tensions in the north of Kosovo must be reduced," she said.
