Serbian Youths Remove Albanian Flag in Belgrade
A group of young men in Serbia have removed the Albanian flag on the streets of Belgrade placed on October 11th and 12th as part of the Non-Framework Summit, as reported this Tuesday.
In the video published by the Serbian news sites, the young people appear lowering the Albanian flag, leaving only the Serbian one standing.
According to local media, many flags of the participating countries, including Albania, remained on the streets of Serbia after the summit. The young man who took the initiative to remove the flags has been identified as Nikola Keljanovic and is a known figure in Serbia for his extremist behavior.
"My friend and I were walking along the Boulevard when I saw the Albanian flags. We stopped to get them out of there. When we approached we saw four boys who came to us to help us", said Keljanovic.
Nevertheless, the footage shows four young people, three of whom are placed under the pillar where the flag stands, becoming a "bridge" for the fourth who removes it by lowering it.
The event took place on Monday night but was made public only today, through photos and videos that the young people themselves have published on social networks.
On its part, the Non-Framework Movement is the largest group of states after the United Nations. The name itself arose as an idea that the movement would be a political alternative for countries that want to avoid opting for a military-political bloc and articulate an independent foreign policy approach.
In the capital of Serbia (then the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia) officials from 25 countries met in September 1961 at the first Conference of the Movement.
Among those who spoke at the event were world leaders such as Indian Prime Minister Jaaharlal Nehru, Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, Indonesian President Sukarno and SFRY leader Josip Broz Tito, at whose initiative the conference was held six decades ago.
