SP Preparing for By-Elections in Six Municipalities
Socialist Party (SP) is resuming the preparations of its structures for by-elections in 6 municipalities, where the position of mayor still remains vacant for several years.
For this purpose, the General Secretary of the Socialist Party, Damian Gjiknuri, is working with the structures of this party, as the Albaniandailynes.com has learned.
Local media report that after the decision of the Constitutional Court for the June 30 elections, President Meta is expected to decree the date of the by-elections for the 6 municipalities, which are run either by commanded but not elected mayors, or by the former mayor, but without a mandate, as is the case of Shkodra, or with the Vice Mayors.
However, the vacancies have come after resignations due to the decriminalization law, or criminal proceedings against mayors elected in 2019.
Shkodra was the municipality that would set the first precedent of running without a mayor. In the local elections of June 2019, because he was affected by the decriminalization law, Valdrin Pjetri resigned from taking office.
After a reckless statement, a few days after the devastating earthquake of November 26, mayor of Durrës, Valbona Sako, resigned from her post, to be replaced by Emirjana Sako.
Latter on, the decriminalization law would affect the mayor of Vora, Agim Kajmaku. The separation from the life of the Mayor of Rrogozhina, Haxhi Memolla, would put the latter's grandson, Edision Memolla, at the head of this institution.
While in the parliamentary elections of April 25, the mayor of Dibra, Dionis Imeraj, would run for deputy, so his seat at the head of the Municipality was taken by Shkëlqim Murrja.
The last to close the saga of municipalities without mayors was the mayor of Lushnja, Fatos Tushe, who was fired by Prime Minister Rama after being arrested for corruption by the Special Prosecution Against Corruption, SPAK.
