Tare Slams Govt for Giving Management of the Ancient City of Butrint to a Non-public Entity

Former Director of Butrint National Park, Auron Tare has publicly criticized government for its last decision to give the ancient city management to a non-public entity.

Tare, who was one of the Founders of Butrint National Park and its first director, said that this is a wrong decision as Butrint was a very successful model with annual revenues up to EUR 1.5 mln.

According to him, this practice it is unknown an no other country of Europe has apply it adding that it can be done only in extreme situation when a country is in danger or in war times.

]"We do not have the luxury to give the management of Butrint to foreigners. You can give a port to foreigners, but you can't give a cultural heritage," said Tare.

According to him, this action can be a precedent and other foreign foundations may seek to manage Albania's heritage assets.
