A closed-door meeting of the ruling Socialist Party parliamentary group on Saturday was marked by reported tensions and verbal clashes between Prime Minister Edi Rama and senior lawmaker Elisa Spiropali, according to local media reports.

The meeting was held at the Palace of Brigades, reportedly saw two separate moments of confrontation. During a presentation by State Cadastre Agency director Lorena Goxhobelli, Spiropali interrupted to call for greater respect toward lawmakers. “A bit more respect for deputies — do not address us like that, we are elected representatives,” she reportedly said. Rama then intervened, directing sharp remarks at Spiropali and telling her not to speak in his presence.

A second tense exchange is said to have occurred during a communication strategy presentation by newly appointed Minister for Relations with Parliament, Erjona Ismailaj. Reports suggest Rama reacted to Spiropali’s behavior in the room, questioning her reactions, prompting a direct response from the lawmaker.

The reported incidents highlight internal strains within the Socialist Party, even as it prepares for upcoming political engagements and public outreach efforts. Neither Rama nor Spiropali has publicly commented on the reported exchanges.
