Work for expansion of Tirana International Airport terminal underway

TIA Expansion Project Responds to Added Flow

Tirana International Airport "Mother Teresa" is implementing a project to expand the terminal, rehabilitate the runway, and increase the number of aircraft parking spaces.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared on social networks images of the works being carried out at the airport, where investments are being made in parallel in several directions.

Rama said that this is an essential intervention that significantly increases the airport's capacity in response to the increased flow of passengers.

"The data predicts that 2024 will be an even more successful year compared to last year, so we will do everything to avoid any delays in the processing of passengers," said the Prime Minister.

The investment responds to the significant increase in the number of passengers and flights. The data of the first months of this year predict that the year 2024 will bring to Albania an even greater number of passengers, compared to last year.

As for the runway, its extension will make transoceanic flights possible. The entire investment is expected to be ready by the summer of next year. Also, the construction of the connecting road creates facilities for air traffic management.

Last year in the first quarter at Rinas airport there were 92 flights per day, while in 2024 there will be 147 flights, a figure that shows the great increase in the flow of passengers.
