Tirana Erupts in Student Protests as Clashes With Police Leave Young Man Seriously Injured

Albania’s capital was gripped by escalating unrest this Tuesday as student-led protests against the government continued for hours, with clashes between demonstrators and police leaving one young man seriously injured and fires reported in several parts of the city.

The demonstrations began at 2 p.m. local time, with students taking to the streets to express their anger toward the government. The situation escalated as protesters entered the premises of Tirana City Hall before later dispersing into other areas of the capital.

One student reportedly suffered a broken leg during clashes with police. News24 confirmed that the young man was in serious condition, according to initial reports. However, subsequent updates indicated that he was out of life-threatening danger and undergoing surgery.

Violence and fires added to the growing tensions across the city. Trash bins were set on fire, while a separate fire was reported in the New Bazaar area of Tirana.

Concerns have also mounted over the use of force by police during efforts to disperse the demonstrators. Several students were reportedly struck with fists and batons during the confrontations.

The situation remains tense as the protests and their aftermath continue to raise concerns over public safety, police conduct and the growing confrontation between students and the government.
