Tirana Zoo Opens on June 1
The new Zoo will come to all the citizens of Tirana as another point of entertainment on June 1. The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, together with a group of children, inspected the works that are in the final stage.
Veliaj assured that the new Zoo will be the most modern in the Balkans, after the release of the occupied spaces.
"I can not wait for the children to have here on June 1 not only an opportunity to get acquainted with the animals, not only an opportunity to spend a very good day with the family, but also a great opportunity to learn. It is probably the most modern Zoo in the Balkans, completely reconceptualized. Spaces are freed from occupation, there is more space for animals. Those narrow cages no longer exist, so in reality there is a much more humane treatment than those scenes we remember from the Zoo we inherited," he declared.
Veliaj underlined that the Tirana Zoo has become a space for all age groups, where 1200 trees have been planted.
"Whoever produces hysteria when a tree is moved, just needs to calm down. One is indeed relocated, but another 1,200 are planted. Let each one do his own work and let the professionals do wonderful work, like the work that has been done here," said the mayor.
The mayor said that the second phase will be followed by the connection of the Zoo and the Botanical Garden, while he called on professors and management staff of the Faculty of Science not to interfere in politics in any kind of decision-making.
"Of course, this is only the first phase, as the second phase is the connection with the Botanical Garden. I would also like to invite the professors of Natural Sciences to come and see for themselves what we have done here, to understand that we can do the same with the Botanical Garden", stressed Veliaj
The mayor also invited those who were sceptical at first to see the transformation at the Zoo, assuring them that the same high quality work would be done for the Botanical Garden.
"The invitation for anyone who is sceptical, or for anyone who, whether for political issues or campaign issues, is involved in battles against the city, to come and see for themselves and realize that we can do the same miracle in the Botanical Garden if we end those trials, and those senseless quarrels, which waste a lot of time in the city. The invitation is for cooperation, so that this development and transformation that we see here, to be done at the Botanical Garden. It can be a fantastic space for the whole city ", stressed Veliaj.
The visit to the Zoo will be an activity that lasts throughout the day, which includes picnic areas along the itineraries of the movement, green spaces free from structures and separate for families and children. In addition, playgrounds are distributed in the garden to make the experience as rich as possible for children and parents.
