US Senator Proposes 4-Point Plan to De-Escalate Kosovo Tensions

The member of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the US Senate, Chris Murphy, has mentioned several points which, according to him, lead to the reduction of tensions in the four northern municipalities of Kosovo.

Murphy says that:

- the special units of the Kosovo Police must be withdrawn, Serbia must take real steps to end the protests;

- schedule new elections;

-to allow limited access to municipal buildings only for civil servants;

-to respect previous Serbia-Kosovo agreements, including the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority.

We remind you that the special envoy of the European Union for the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Miroslav Lajcak, and the special envoy of the USA for the Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, are expected to visit Pristina and Belgrade next week.

The first purpose of the visit is to find a solution to get out of the current situation which risks damaging everything that the EU considers as success in the dialogue. So, the focus will first be on reducing tensions and continuing efforts based on what has been proposed after the meeting in Moldova.
