Elbasan-Qafe Thana segment under construction

4th Lot of Elbasan-Qafë Thana Ready in Sept 2025

The works have been already extended to the first four lots on the Elbasan-Qafë Thana road, part of Corridor VIII, Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku said on Friday during the inspection of the works on Lot 4. Balluku stated that Corridor VIII is one of the most important segments, as it connects Albania with the countries of the region.

"Ensures the connection with North Macedonia. A new border point will also be built. The new border connection will be made with a 6 km tunnel that will connect Corridor VIII near the Bushtrica bridge. This corridor will then be connected to the Qukës-Qafë Pllocë road for the passage of vehicles going towards the border with Greece near Kapshtica. Corridor VIII will be connected to all other segments, those that are under construction and those that will be built in the future, such as Kashar-Lekaj or Elbasan-Rrogozhinë, segments that will also be connected to the new Port of Durrës,” said Balluku.

On the other hand, Balluku said that the fourth lot is of great importance for the city of Librazhd, which will have greater road safety because there will no longer be a national segment crossing it. This fourth lot ends in September 2025.

The first two lots of the Elbasan-Qafe Thana segment lie along the Shkumbin riverbed, while lots three and four continue along the hills in the areas of Murrashi and Librazhd.

The road Elbasan-Qafë Thana is part of Corridor VIII. The construction of this segment will facilitate the circulation of vehicles by shortening the travel time as well as simultaneously increasing road safety parameters.
