Vjosa Osmani Is Most Voted Person in Kosovo's History
The leader of the "Guxo" initiative and the candidate of the Vetëvendosje Movement for president, Vjosa Osmani, is officially the most voted person in the history of elections in Kosovo since they are organized with open lists.
The 38-year-old who holds the position of acting President, in the elections of February 14 has received the trust of a total of 300.788 Kosovars who have marked number two in the list of the party led by Albin Kurti, with the latter not officially part of the race as a result of a decision of the Constitutional Court.
However, at the time when the elections were held with closed lists and where the votes received by the party went directly to the party leader, the record of the most voted man in Kosovo is held by the former president and founder of LDK, Ibrahim Rugova.
In 2001, the Democratic League of Kosovo received 359,851 votes or 45.65% which was translated into 47 MPs in the Assembly of Kosovo.
At that time, Rugova had left behind Hashim Thaçi with the Democratic Party of Kosovo who had received 202.622 votes and Ramush Haradinaj who with the AAK had received almost 62.000 votes.
Osmani received such a record of votes after the consequent clashes he had with the leader of LDK, Isa Mustafa, and after the decision to finally part ways with the party where she had started her political career and which recently also had given her the confidence to run for prime minister.
As the LDK candidate for prime minister, Vjosa Osmani had lost the October 6 elections against the VV candidate, Albin Kurti.
Despite such a result and rivalry, the two parties after several months of negotiations had reached an agreement to govern together also thanks to the insistence of Vjosa Osmani.
Problems and disagreements within the government had prevented Kurti from staying in power for long. The LDK had decided to oust the LVV leader from power despite disagreements within the party.
Osmani after the separation from the Democratic League of Kosovo has created its list "Guxo" with which she competed in the elections of February 14 as part of the list of Vetëvendosje.
She has managed to win 7 seats in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo together with her candidates for MPs.
