Why Spain Doesn't Recognize Kosovo's Independence

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez spoke on Monday from Tirana about Spain's stance towards the recognition of Kosovo, declaring that international law has been violated.

In the press conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama, Sanchez emphasized that it is normal for two friendly countries like Spain and Albania to have disagreements, and in this case the disagreement is about the recognition of Kosovo.

"Good friends like Albania and Spain can have their own disagreements. We think that it is a unilateral declaration of independence and we think that international law has been violated, so we cannot be in favor of this acceptance. We say this with all the respect we have for the Albanian people.

It is an opinion that we share with Albania, but this does not mean that in the framework of European integration we do not promote the dialogue between Serbia and Pristina. This is the position we have. Even good friends can have differences or contradictions between each other", said the Spanish Prime Minister.
