World Premiere of Vasil Tole’s Piano Concerto “Concerto Trinitas” in Tirana
The world premiere of *Concerto Trinitas*, a new piano concerto by Albanian composer Vasil Tole, will take place on November 3 at 7 pm at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Tirana. The performance will feature pianist Amir Gjakoviç, accompanied by the Theatre’s Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro Ermir Krantja.
Composed in 2025, *Concerto Trinitas* is structured in three movements and marks the third concerto Tole has written for solo instrument and orchestra, following his Violin Concerto (2022) and the flute concerto *Trias* (1996).
In this latest work, Tole continues his exploration of Albania’s musical heritage, drawing on the archaic roots of traditional music from Albania, Kosovo and the Arbëresh communities of southern Italy. By weaving together these diverse musical traditions, the composer seeks to reveal an underlying artistic unity reflecting what he describes as the Albanian musical genotype.
Beyond its cultural dimension, the concerto explores the relationship between the solo pianist and the orchestra as a metaphor for the individual confronting society in the postmodern world. The soloist embodies a distinct personality seeking to affirm identity, emotions, beliefs and creative freedom within a collective structure that alternately supports and challenges it.
This musical dialogue reflects broader tensions between solitude and coexistence, the individual and the group, personal freedom and the enduring need for communication.
The solo part will be performed by Amir Gjakoviç, praised by the composer for his outstanding technique and exceptional musicality. The orchestra will be conducted by Ermir Krantja, son of Mustafa Krantja, a pioneering figure in Albanian conducting, and an accomplished conductor with an international career.
The score and orchestral parts of *Concerto Trinitas* have already been published by the Dutch music publishing house DONEMUS, making the work available internationally.
The premiere offers audiences an opportunity to discover a new orchestral composition that brings together Albanian musical roots and contemporary artistic reflection.
