'Hitler' of Namibia Wins Local Elections
His name is Adolf Hitler and he won the local elections in Namibia with an overwhelming number of votes. It has nothing to do with the Nazi dictator and "no intention of dominating the world."
Adolf Hitler Uunona, reports the BBC, was elected councilor of the Ompundja constituency with 85% of the vote last week. In an interview with the German newspaper Bild, the politician reiterated that he "has nothing to do" with Nazi ideology.
Adolf, like other German names, is not uncommon in the African country, which was once a German colony.
Uunona was elected to the ruling Swapo party which led the campaign against colonial rule by the white minority.
He acknowledged that his father had given him the name of a former Nazi leader, but explained that he probably did not understand what Adolf Hitler was up to.
"As a child, I saw it as a completely normal name. Only when I grew up did I realize: this man wanted to subjugate the whole world," said Adolf Hitler of Namibia. "I have nothing in common with any of these things."
Uunona also revealed that his wife, friends and relatives call him Adolf and he has no intention of changing his name.
Between 1884 and 1915, Namibia was part of German territory called Southwest German Africa.
