11-Year Old Raped in Kosovo, Another Official Resigns
The second resignation comes in Kosovo within 24 hours after the serious incident of the rape of an 11-year-old girl. Ali Gashi, who has until now headed the Directorate for the treatment of prisoners and minors in the Correctional Service of Kosovo, has resigned.
"The resignation has come as a moral act of Gashi, since one of the suspects for violence has been serving a sentence in correctional institutions for several criminal offenses," the announcement states.
This resignation comes a day after Samedin Mehmeti resigned from the position of the director general of the Kosovo Police, for "personal reasons and professional conscience" regarding the last case of sexual violence against minors in Pristina.
The authorities in Kosovo have arrested the five perpetrators who allegedly raped the minor in Pristina on August 27 in Pristina.
Four of them have been sentenced to a one-month detention. Three minors are also among those arrested.
The case of rape of the 11-year-old has caused anger among the Kosovar public. Institutional leaders have requested that the suspected perpetrators receive deserved punishment.
