4.3 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Greece

Another earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter scale was recorded in the early hours of Sunday in Greece in the area of Thebes, following the disturbing situation with over 30 seismic tremors that were recorded yesterday.

And while people have taken to the streets out of fear and panic, the Greek media do not report any injuries or significant material damage.

But what is happening?

Professor Efthymios Lekkas calmed the citizens with a message saying that there is no reason for concern. "We are monitoring the phenomenon. We had something similar six months ago, but we should not worry," he said.

For his part, Director of Research at the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens Athanasios Ghanas underlined that “there is a slight seismic deterioration in the area as indicated by repeated seismic tremors which are weak in size.

"We are monitoring the evolution of the phenomenon but what we need to clarify is that this activity has nothing to do with the seismic sequence that took place in December 2020 in the village of Kallithea with a magnitude of 4.6 Richter where we also had damage," he said.
